But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: Romans 10:8 NIV
How close are you to the word? How well do you know the will of God? Paul had been quoting Deuteronomy 30:11-14 and concluded with this statement in his letter to the Romans. The message is that God’s word is available and not too difficult to understand. It is a message that God’s will for Israel was clear. In other words, the commands of God are not too hard to obey.
Jesus Is The Word of God
Just as the word of God was available to the nation of Israel, Paul is asserting that the people of Israel should not be looking for the Messiah or expecting a revelation to suddenly come upon them. Christ had already come, and they had not recognized him as the Savior. Jesus was near them and all they had to do was put their faith in him.
The same is true today. As Christians, we know that the Lord is with us, and we are with him. We have access to his word and when we accept him, we are forgiven for our sins. When we put our faith in Christ, through grace, we receive his righteousness. The blood of Jesus washes away our sin and we are given the gift of eternal life.
The message concerning faith is the good news of Jesus Christ. Our Lord and Savior is the Word of God. As we read in John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. KJV”
Prayer: “Father God, you are righteous and holy. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and lead me to do your will. Provide for me the things I will need to live a life that is pleasing to you. Forgive me for my failings as I turn away from sin and live by your word. Thank you for being near to me. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
