Christian Genesis "Forgiveness" Devotionals

Biblical forgiveness is based on the righteousness, judgment, and mercy of God. Forgiveness comes from God when we repent from or sins. In repentance, we turn from our sin and choose to live by the word and will of God. When we turn from sin in the service of the Lord, we find forgiveness. As we read in 1 John 1:9, ‘If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. WEB”

Forgiveness of those who offend us requires submission to God as the final judge and authority over others. Romans 12:19 states, “Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.’ WEB”

John the Baptist led sinners to find forgiveness when he encouraged repentance. Matthew 3:2 records John’s words saying, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand! WEB” Likewise, Jesus said in Mark 1:15, “The time is fulfilled, and God’s Kingdom is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News. WEB” The Good News is that Jesus paid the price for our sins. Those who believe in Christ find God’s forgiveness subsequent to repentance.

Scripture teaches that every man and woman requires God’s forgiveness to enter into his presence. We read in Romans 3:23, “all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God. WEB” In addition, Paul wrote in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. KJV” Mercifully, God grants forgiveness to the repentant. The Lord does so by his grace through the sacrifice made by Christ on the cross.
