Christian Genesis "Obedience" Devotionals

Through the life and ministry of Jesus, the Lord established a new covenant. This covenant provides a way for repentant sinners to enter the kingdom of heaven in obedience to God. Scripture records the promise of this covenant in the writing of the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah predicted the ministry of Christ. We read in Jeremiah 31:33, “I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write it in their heart. I will be their God, and they shall be my people. WEB”

It is the law and the commandments in accordance with the Holy Spirit of God that convict sinners of falling short of the glory of God. Likewise, it is our repentance and obedience to the commandments of God that prove our faith in God’s goodness. To live by the will of God, we must follow his commandments.

Jesus famously said in Matthew 7:21, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. WEB” Jesus’ brother James reiterates the importance of obedience to God’s word. He wrote in James 1:22, “But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. WEB”

Additionally, we read in James 2:19, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. WEB” Throughout the scriptures, it is clear. The bible teaches repentance and obedience to God. Faithfulness to his word proves our devotion to God. As James wrote in James 2:26, “For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead. WEB”
