Christian Genesis "Righteousness" Devotionals

What is biblical righteousness? Why is it important in our relationship with God? Righteousness is right standing with God. For God to see the believer as righteous, we must repent from sin. The faithful live in obedience to the word and will of God. Our faith in Jesus Christ gives us access to the Father based upon the forgiveness we receive from his atoning sacrifice on the cross.

There is always an element of faith in God in the righteousness imparted by God to any man or woman. Paul wrote in Hebrews 11:6, “Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him. WEB”

God credits the faith of those who submit to his will as righteousness. We read in the Old Testament of Abram and God’s view of his faith. Genesis 15:6 says of Abram, “And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness. KJV”

As Adam’s sin is visited upon all of his descendants, God transferred the sins of the world to Christ on the cross. In turn, God credits the righteousness of Christ to those who demonstrate faith in him. For the repentant in Jesus Christ, it is not our righteousness but the blameless nature of our Lord that makes us acceptable to God.

Therefore, when we approach God, we do so in the name of Jesus. We do this in humility. Faith, repentance, and submission to the will of God removes the wedge of sin that existed between us and God. With faith in Jesus, we receive the righteousness of Christ who intercedes on our behalf as high priest with our Father in heaven.
