Justified by Faith

Justified by Faith

So that the law has become our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Galatians 3:24 WEB

As Christians, the grace of God saves us through faith in Jesus Christ. And yet, there is still importance to keeping the law of God. Jesus gave us an example of living the perfect righteous life. In his example and in the law recorded in the bible, we understand the nature of God. From the life of Christ and the word of God, we have a solid foundation for living our lives in a way that pleases the Lord.

In Galatians 3:24, Paul describes the purpose for biblical law in the lives of the Israelites before the coming of Christ. The law does not bring life. In fact, we are condemned by the law because we are all sinners. However, the law is important. Justified by faith, the law cannot save people from their sins but it does describe morality and righteousness. For this reason, Pall called the law our tutor. The law is our instructor in righteousness.

For All Have Sinned

The bible tells us in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God. WEB” Without the redemptive power of the blood of Jesus, we are all guilty of sin and worthy of judgment. And we know as Romans 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. KJV” In other words, we deserve death, but God shows mercy and grace for those who believe in his Son, Jesus Christ.

Paul teaches in Galatians that the law is like a tutor. It provided direction and discipline until all people were able to be justified through faith in Jesus. But does this mean we no longer need to live by the law? The answer is clear. Jesus says in John 14:15, “If you love me, keep my commandments. WEB” Jesus fulfilled the law, but those who love him do their best to keep his commandments.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your holy word and that I am justified by faith. Thank you for Jesus Christ. Lead me to follow your commandments all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
