Chosen by God

coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious. 1 Peter 2:4 WEB

Did you ever play hide and seek as a child? In the game, we are safe when we touch base. In the Christian faith, when we touch base with the cornerstone of our faith, Jesus Christ, we are in touch with his life-giving message. As Christ says in Matthew 7:24, “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. KJV”

Peter references a Psalm of the old testament when describing Jesus as, “rejected indeed by men.” Psalm 118:22 is prophetic in its assertion, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. NIV” The religious leaders of his time rejected Christ but he was chosen by God to save us from sin. The truth of his word and his resurrection, made him the cornerstone of the Christian faith.

Jesus Overcame The World

Though he was accused and condemned, Jesus overcame the world. He defeated sin, and death. Chosen by God and sent to save believers from sin, Jesus died in our place and redeemed mankind making us acceptable to a righteous God.

Jesus redeemed the repentant men and women to God. Chosen by God for this purpose, we come to him in obedience to his teaching. From Christ, we get the stability of standing on the rock of our salvation. But more than that, we get the spiritual nourishment we need to grow in Christ. As Jesus promised in John 4:14, “but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life. WEB”

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the living stone that is Jesus Christ. Men rejected him but you chose him to be our precious redeemer. I come to him as the perfect example of living a Godly life. Give me the wisdom to follow his example. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
