Christian Genesis "Prayer" Devotionals
As Christians, we pray in the name of Jesus and for many reasons. We pray seeking connection to God and his comfort. We pray to establish and develop our relationship with our heavenly Father. In prayer, we maintain this relationship. Additionally, we pray for our needs as well as for the needs of others.
Paul encouraged prayer asking that God establish his truth among men. He wrote to the church in Colossae asking that they pray in this way. We read his words in Colossians 4:3, “And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. NIV”
Famously, Jesus taught his followers how to pray. The Lord taught sincerity in prayer. He said in Matthew 6:5, “When you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward. WEB”
Jesus also gave his disciples an example of prayer. We read the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 in which he said, “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.”
Scripture: James 5:16, “Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.”
