Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 WEB
In our ever-changing times, consistency is difficult to find. Technologies, customs, and lifestyles change in time. Progress is not necessarily a bad thing, and neither is tradition. However, the truth itself is consistent. Our understanding changes but truth does not change. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
The importance of this statement is two-fold. First, there is importance in following the examples of faith filled lives in the bible. Second, the consistency of doctrine plays a crucial role in living Godly lives. In other words, we follow faithful examples, and we change to conform to the will of God, but God himself does not change. We grow in our understanding of truth, but truth itself does not change. Truth is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
The Christian Faith Is Complete
It is comforting to know that the Christian faith is complete. The life of Jesus Christ revealed the things we need to know to live lives that are pleasing to our heavenly Father. The scripture recorded in the bible teaches us the nature and will of God. In our unstable, unpredictable world, we have reliable, consistent instruction for daily living that is the inspired word of God.
Paul encourages us to stand on the word of God, unchanging, in 1 Corinthians 4:6 where he says, “Do not go beyond what is written. NIV” In addition, the bible teaches reliance on God’s word in Proverbs 3:5-6 saying, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. KJV”
God’s word is reliable. And so, when someone comes along claiming to have a new understanding, we can stand firmly on the scriptures. There is no need to get caught up in confusion of any sort. We have the truth of the word of God. We have the example of Jesus Christ who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Our God is consistent as we read in 1 Corinthians 14:33, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. KJV”
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the consistency of your word. Unlike the world, your truth does not change but is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Help me to better understand your word and increase my wisdom. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
