The New Man

The New Man

and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator, Colossians 3:10 WEB

As descendants of Adam, we are born in a fallen state. In other words, man is by nature in rebellion to the will of God. We read in Romans 3:10, “As it is written, ‘There is no one righteous; no, not one.’ WEB” It is only by faith in the sacrifice Jeus made on the cross that we are forgiven of our rebellious nature and restored to right standing with God.

When we put our faith in Christ, the old sinful self dies and the new man of righteous obedience to God is born. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. WEB”

The Image of God

We read of Jesus in Colossians 1:5, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. WEB” We too are made in the image of God. As we read in Genesis 1:27, “God created man in his own image. In God’s image he created him; male and female he created them. WEB”

Because of the rebelliousness of sin, mankind is under the judgment of God. However, God sent Jesus as our redeemer. After accepting Christ, believers enter a process of renewal in which we become more familiar with the will of God. As Paul put it, “we put on the new man” and begin to live in obedience to our heavenly Father.

Also, as we mature, we become better at living lives in obedience to the will of God and in service of his purpose. In other words, the new man or woman we become is gradually being conformed to more closely resemble the image of our Creator.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the wisdom of your holy word. Thank you for redeeming me by the sacrifice made by Jesus. Help me to better understand your word and your will. Help me become the new man you want me to be. Lead me to be more like you with each passing day. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
