Your Advantage

Your Advantage

Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I don’t go away, the Counselor won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. John 16:7 WEB

Jesus promised his followers that he would not leave us helpless. Although he left this earth to sit at the right hand of our Father in heaven, Christ sent an advocate that is God’s Holy Spirit. It is the same Spirit that dwelt within Christ that Jesus promised to those who love and follow his commands. For this reason, Jesus said to his disciples, “it is to your advantage that I go away.” After Christ returned to God, as the body of Christ, each believer received the Holy Spirit.

The Lord promised to be with his followers forever. Jesus lives in each believer in the person of the Holy Spirit. The Lord said in John 14:15-18, “If you love me, keep my commandments. I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive; for it doesn’t see him and doesn’t know him. You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you. WEB”

The Spirit of Truth

It is to your advantage and my advantage that Jesus lived, died and was resurrected. In doing so, the Lord showed us how to live for God. In addition, he paid the price for our sins, and demonstrated the power of God to give life everlasting. Further, it is to your advantage and my advantage that Christ returned to our heavenly Father. With Christ in heaven, the Holy Spirit is made available to each of the members of the body of Christ here on earth.

Just as Jesus did not do anything on his own but only shared what he saw and heard from God, the Holy Spirit shares the things of God with the faithful. As Jesus said in John 16:13, “However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming. WEB”

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the comfort and guidance of your Holy Spirit. As the Holy Spirit helps me, let my life of service be to your advantage and to the benefit of your holy kingdom. Guide me to do your will. In Jesus name – Amen”
