What Wisdom Is in Them?

What Wisdom Is in Them?

The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and trapped. Since they have rejected the word of the LORD, what kind of wisdom do they have? Jeremiah 8:9 NIV

Godly wisdom is not the same as worldly wisdom. There are scholars that believe and educated men that do not believe the word of God. There are proud men that follow selfish ambition and then there are humble men that submit to the will of our Creator.

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. KJV” Worldly wisdom can make man indifferent to the suffering of others and even lead to his own destruction, but Godly wisdom calls us to the service of our fellow man.

Psalm 14:1 says, “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. KJV” When there is no place in a man’s heart for God, he becomes overwhelmed with his own ideas and plans. But, following God, we have access to the supreme intelligence that comes from the Creator.

Follow The Word of God

Jeremiah’s words caution us not to lean on our own understanding but instead to follow the word of God. They warn that a man’s own wisdom and craftiness are not enough to save him. The worldly wise have no one to turn to but themselves.

On the other hand, those that follow the word of God always have his wisdom to guide them. We are truly blessed and truly wise when we conform our thoughts and actions to the will of our heavenly Father and seek him in all that we do.

My Ways Are Higher Than Your Ways

As we read in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. KJV” Worldly wisdom is not Godly wisdom. For our best results, it is better to lean on the supreme intelligence of God rather than trust in our own worldly wisdom.

Cleansed from sin and restored to right standing with God by belief in the atoning sacrifice of Christ, those of us who accept Jesus as Lord as Savior have access to God, the ultimate source of wisdom. As Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. WEB” Let’s pray that God increases us in his wisdom and give thanks for our redemption in Jesus Christ.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the wisdom in your holy word. Thank you for my salvation in Jesus Christ. Increase my wisdom. Help me to rely on you rather than my own understanding. Lead me in your ways all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
