What Is Man?

What Is Man?

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained; what is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him? Psalm 8:3 WEB

Think of the magnificence of God. As humans we have barely scratched the surface of exploring the heavens and yet, in a worldly way, we take pride in the accomplishments of man. But in humility, we consider the greatness of God, who created all that we see on earth and in the night sky. David is humble and correct to question, “What is man, that you think of him?” As men, we are so impressed with what we can do, but considering God, we are in awe of his work.

A Little Lower Than the Angels

We are made in the image of God. We are a part of his work, and he loves us. David continues in Psalm 8:5 to describe man saying, “For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor. KJV” We are very important to the Lord and yet it is difficult for some to believe.

When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, we become joint heirs in the Kingdom of Heaven. As believers in Christ, redeemed by his blood, we are children of God. We approach God with humility and reverence because he is holy, the greatest being in existence.

But how much should we rejoice that we are his children? We did nothing to deserve it, and yet God loved us so much that he made a way for us to be with him in heaven. As we know from John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. KJV” What are we, that God should take notice of us? We are his children, and he is our loving Father.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for adopting me into your family. Lead me to do your will and increase my understanding of your word. I look forward to seeing what you will bring into this day. Thank you for thinking about me and for making a place for me in heaven. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
