Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord, Acts 3:19 WEB
Repentance is an act of a sorrowful heart. It is motivated by regret and shame for our sin. In repentance, we admit that we have been wrong, and God’s way is right. Repenting from our sin, we admit the error in our ways and acknowledge that there is a better way to live. Tuning away from our transgressions and toward God’s holy presence, the Lord’s righteousness and mercy produce times of refreshing and forgiveness.
Salvation from sin comes by the grace of God when we place our faith in Christ and repent for our sins. There is a transformation, “a time of refreshing.” Repentance means to turn away from sin and toward obedience to the will of God. Transformed into a new creation, we live differently, we think differently. We live according to God’s word.
Times of Refreshing & A New Life Story
Today’s scripture promises the believer that when we turn away from our sins, they are “blotted out.” No longer will they be held against us. God not only forgives, but he also forgets these sins. The blood of Christ removes them from the account of our life, erasing the corruption of the past and replacing it with the righteousness of Jesus.
The world might remember. We may still reflect on our past mistakes. But the good news is, God does not keep an account of our sins after we have repented. It is like being pardoned for a crime and having the record expunged. You have the right to live life as though the sin had never happened so that there may come times of refreshing.
As we read in 1 John 3:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. KJV” The Lord is full of grace and love. He is merciful and kind. God forgives us when we confess our sins and turn from them in obedience to him.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for my salvation in Jesus Christ. Thank you for the truth of your holy word. Help me to search my heart and show me what is outside of your will. I repent for my sins and choose to live a life that is pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
