The Whole Armor of God

The Whole Armor of God

Therefore, put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:13 WEB

In this scripture, Paul encourages believers to put on the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6:10 explains the need for this protection saying, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. KJV” The armor of God prepares us for spiritual warfare with the forces of darkness.

Paul describes the whole armor of God in Ephesians 6:14-17 saying, “Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace, above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. WEB”

Withstanding the Assault of the Enemy

Due to the depth, breadth, and power of the spiritual assault on believers, we need the protection of the whole armor of God. These tools work together to secure us, and each is essential. Paul informs us that the whole armor of God helps the faithful to remain standing after an assault by the enemy.

The truth of God’s word keeps us from being deceived, and the righteousness of Christ enables us to overcome wickedness. The good news of peace is the gospel message of reconciliation to God we share with the world. Our shield of faith protects us from assaults on our belief in Christ. The helmet of salvation is our assurance of the saving grace of God in Jesus Christ. Finally, the sword of the spirit is the word of God we use to share and defend the gospel message of Jesus.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your holy word. Help me to effectively use your armor. Be with me as I share the gospel with the world. In Jesus’ name – Amen.”
