Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 WEB
With these words, Jesus prepared his disciples for his arrest, crucifixion, and resurrection. Through his ministry, Jesus called men and women to repentance, demonstrating God’s desire to love and forgive. Matthew 4:17 says, ‘From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, ‘Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.’ WEB” As Jesus approached his return to the Father, he clearly stated his purpose to reconcile sinful mankind with holy God as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
Jesus is the way because he paid the price for our sins. Paul writes in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God. WEB” Also, Paul teaches in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. KJV” Repentance from sin and faith in the atonement sacrifice of Christ demonstrate our acceptance of Jesus as the way to our heavenly Father. Without Jesus paying the price for our sins, we could not stand blameless before the throne of God.
The Truth and the Life
Further, Jesus prepared his followers to understand the significance of his sacrificial death in terms of eternal life. The Lord said in John 14:19, ‘Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also. WEB” After his death on the cross, Christ demonstrated the truth of his resurrection by presenting himself to his followers. Risen from the grave, Jesus proved himself to be the way to eternal life with our Father in heaven.
If Christ had said and done all of the things witnessed by his disciples and never returned to them, their doubts would have lingered. After they witnessed the risen Lord, his followers were willing to die rather than refute the truth of the gospel message we read in Acts 4:12 which says, “There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved! WEB” Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life!
Prayer: ‘Father God, thank you for the gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Thank you for providing the way and showing me the truth. Guide me to live according to your will. Help me to share the truth of the gospel of hope through faith in your loving kindness. In Jesus name – Amen”
