For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13 WEB
In this verse from his letter to the Romans, Pau quotes a promise from the prophet Joel. Joel 2:32 says, “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call. KJV” WIth this statement, Paul teaches that Christ is the Lord that the Old Testament prophet wrote about as deliverer.
We read in Acts 4:12, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved! WEB” Calling on the name of the Lord means turning to Christ in faith seeking salvation from sin. As Jesus says in Luke 5:32, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. WEB”
The Will of My Father
Critically, Jesus teaches in Matthew 7:21, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. WEB” This statement concerns those who use the name of Christ but do not in sincerity have faith in him.
Hebrews 11:6 explains, “Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him. WEB” When we call on the name of the Lord, faithfully seeking God, the Lord hears from heaven and responds to our call.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for forgiving my sin. Thank you for the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ. Guide me to do your will. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
