The Lord’s Purpose Prevails

The Lord’s Purpose Prevails

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21 NIV

In this life, we make plans to acquire the things that we want. We make plans for getting a quality education. We make plans to raise a family or to vacation in a dream destination. There may be a particular home you would like to own, a certain career path you would like to take, or maybe a business you want to create. We make plans to make these things happen.

Life is full of opportunities for planning, full of our objectives and goals. One fact a Christian should not ignore, no matter how great our ideas, God has the best plan for our lives. No matter how well intentioned our goals may be, or how well developed our planning, in the end, the Lord’s purpose prevails.

King Solomon is the author of this proverb. He understood the importance of the process of planning. As king of Israel, Solomon planned strategic alliances to prosper and protect his people. The wise king created plans for public infrastructure, designed gardens, built an impressive palace for himself, and even constructed the temple of the Lord.

With all of his skill for planning, Solomon placed primary importance on serving God’s will and seeking his direction. As he wrote in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. KJV”

Commit to The Lord

Solomon was the son of the great king David and David taught the importance of devotion to the Lord. He wrote in Psalm 37:5, “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. KJV” David knew well that the best strategy for success was to rely on the Lord and serve his purpose.

Whether we choose to accept or reject the will of God for our lives, ultimately the Lord’s purpose prevails. That is why it is of greatest importance to live by the word of God. As we read in Matthew 16:26, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? KJV”

Let us take time each day to study the word of God and pray for guidance. Let us set our hearts on serving God’s purpose. Our Father in heaven has the best plan for each of our lives. As a fellow believer, I want to encourage you to follow God’s plan. Remember Jeremiah 29:11 which reads, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ NIV”

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the perfect plan you have for my life. Thank you for my salvation in Jesus Christ. Guide me according to your will and your purpose. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
