The Lord Will Hear

The Lord Will Hear

But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him. Psalm 4:3 KJV

The fourth Psalm is written by King David. In it, he speaks to God, to himself, and to other men. His son Absolom and a band of his followers were in pursuit of David in order to kill him and take his throne. David’s psalm offers his assurance of God saving him in his time of need.

Writing, “The Lord will hear,” David displays his confidence that God hears the prayers of the faithful who serve him. With these words, David warns Absolom and those in league with him that their scheme to acquire the throne through violence will ultimately fail.

The Lord God set David upon the throne of Israel. In addition, David was the Lord’s faithful servant. David’s faith, service, and divine appointment made him the holy, anointed ruler of the land. On the other hand, Absolom was rebellious and did not serve the Lord. He was not chosen by God to be king.

David writes in this passage that the Lord set him apart for himself. He calls himself googly because of this and his faithful service. In using these terms, David makes a clear distinction between himself and those who oppose him. David has the help of the Creator of the universe. His rebellious enemies must rely on themselves.

When I Call Unto Him

As the rightful king of Israel, through his faith in God, David’s victory over the rebels was  a foregone conclusion. Though dishonored by his son and harassed by his pursuers, in the end, David prevailed with the help of God. David had faith in his help coming from God. The great king demonstrated his faith with his words writing, “the Lord will hear when I call unto him.”

Christians have the same assurance as David. When troubles come, the Lord is faithful to hear our prayers. In Addition, for those who live without sin and in a righteous relationship with the Lord, we have the confidence that the Lord will also answer our prayers. As we read in John 15:7, “If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you. WEB”

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for hearing my prayers. Thank you for setting apart those who believe in your son for your purposes and your kingdom. Help me to live according to your word. In Jesus’ name – Amen”

Forget the Former Things

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV When we consider the nineteenth verse of these two...

The Fiery Trial
