For the Lord gives wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6 KJV
There are different types of wisdom. There is worldly wisdom and Godly wisdom. Worldly wisdom leads us to try and satisfy our carnal desires. It makes us greedy for wealth and material possession. Worldly wisdom tends to be self-centered and unfulfilling. The Lord gives wisdom that leads believers to follow his will for our lives. Ultimately, this proves more fulfilling as following the will of God protects believers from the consequences of sinful behavior.
Godly wisdom is described and contrasted with worldly wisdom in James 3:14-17 in this way, “But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. WEB”
The Lord Knows Best
We must guard against the wisdom of the world and learn the wisdom of God. His ways are higher than our ways. We see the circumstances, but God sees the outcome. The Lord knows the best course to take in every situation.
To have Godly wisdom, we must be firmly rooted in his word. The wisdom of the world will lead us to try and satisfy our desires and away from submitting to God. The simplest way to describe this is to make use of wisdom to glorify God rather than ourselves.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your word. Guide me to become wise in your eyes and not my own. – In Jesus’ name – Amen”
