For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Romans 1:20 WEB
This scripture about the visible and the invisible things expresses that creation itself makes God known to mankind. Just as there are no cars without car manufacturers or no clothes without a tailor, there is no material world with a material maker. Paul makes clear in previous scripture that men do not know God because of a willingness to suppress belief and righteousness. This is true for each of us to some extent because of sin.
By looking at creation, we know something about the nature of God. When we look at what God has made, we experience his providence in the fruit of the trees for example. We see his power and divine nature in the majesty of the mountains and the abundance of life on earth.
The Heavens Declare The Glory of God
King David wrote about the invisible things made obvious by the creation in Psalm 19:1-4 saying, “The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork. Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language, where their voice is not heard. Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world. WEB”
God gives enough knowledge and inspiration in his creation for each of us to seek him. And, as Jesus says in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. WEB” Paul asserts that those who do not seek God are without excuse, willfully ignoring the obvious.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for revealing the invisible things of your nature through the visible work of your creation. I long to be close to you. Help me to understand your holy word and lead me to live a life that is pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
