The Image of His Son

The Image of His Son

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29 KJV

When God created heaven and earth, he made mankind in his own image. He then gave man authority over the living creatures of this world. Genesis 1:26 describes this saying, “God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ WEB”

Male or female, God created us in his image. As we read in Genesis 1:27, “God created man in his own image. In God’s image he created him; male and female he created them. WEB” But after, man fell into sin, giving into temptation in the Garden of Eden. Because of our sinful nature, we needed a redeemer to restore our right standing with God. For this purpose, God sent his Son to pay the price for our sin and demonstrate how to live godly lives.

The Perfect Example

Jesus Christ is the perfect example of a godly man. When we conform to the image of his Son, we become the man or woman God intended us to be from the foundation of the world. For non-believers, this is a controversial statement. But Paul’s words about predestination are controversial even among Christians giving rise to a debate about our free will.

What is clear is that God knew us before we knew him. Paul writes of Christians in Ephesians 1:4, “even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without blemish before him in love. WEB” God knew the trouble man would have when given free will. Before the foundation of the world, the Lord ordained that his children would conform to the image of his Son.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the example set by the image of your Son. Thank you for redemption in Christ. Guide me to conform to your will. Help me to live and love like you. In Jesus name – Amen”
