Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. Micah 7:7 KJV
In preceding verses, Micah describes the misery of living in Israel during a period of great corruption. With themes that are familiar today, he writes of the misconduct of his contemporaries from murders to bribes and multiple betrayals. The prophet ends the detailing of the depravity of his time with our scripture, “Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.”
The God described by Micah has the exact characteristics of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The prophetic words in this chapter describe the Lord’s righteous judgment of sin and the grace of God’s mercy. With praise, the prophet writes in Micah 7:18, “Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness. WEB”
My Light and My Salvation
When we encounter corruption, like Micah, we look to the Lord. Rather than retaliate, we cry out to God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Lord is our defender. He is “the God of my salvation.” As King David wrote in Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? KJV”
The prophets and the Psalmists wrote of the saving grace of God to prepare the nations for the coming of Christ. When Christ came, he fulfilled the law, the prophecies of God’s mercy and judgment of sin. In Christ, the prayers of the prophets and God’s faithful were answered. As Jesus said to his disciples in Luke 24:44, “This is what I told you while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms concerning me must be fulfilled. Prayer: “Father God, you are the God of my salvation. Thank you for your righteousness, forgiveness, and grace. Thank you for counting the faith of a sinner as righteousness. Guide me to live according to your will. Give me strength to endure the trials of this world. In Jesus name – Amen”
