The Fool

The Fool

The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. Corrupt are they and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. Psalm 53:1 KJV

If we do not acknowledge the existence of God, we reject his law and authority. When a person fails to live under God’s authority, that person lives a corrupt life. In this Psalm, the person who rejects God is called a fool. This does not mean that the person is not smart or is unintelligent, it means that he or she lives without morality and without the foundation of a Godly perspective in life.

God Is the Foundation for Morality

Notice that the passage says that the fool does no good. Without God as a foundation for morality, there is no reason to do good to others. When a person refuses to submit to a higher power, there is no one to hold them to account. This person has a fool’s heart.

Without God, a person will rely on their own understanding and not the superior intelligence, ethics, and morality of the Creator. This will lead to corruption because we are sinners by nature. We are fallible. Our hearts are filled with selfish ambitions when we do not submit to God.

As Christians, we are not free to define what is right and wrong. Our understanding of good and evil comes from God’s holy word. But when a person believes there is no God, that person tends toward error because of selfish desires.

Prayer: “Father God, I praise your name and submit to your will. Give me wisdom to know the difference between right and wrong. Keep me in your way and deliver me from the foolishness of corrupt thinking. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
