But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 WEB
Light is cleansing and so is the blood of Jesus Christ. The blood of Jesus washes away sin for those who accept him as Lord and Savior. When John writes, “If we walk in the light” he indicates a condition for the cleansing of sins. Called to repentance and commanded to love one another, Jesus followers must live in obedience to God. We submit to God and walk in the light of his Holy word.
The blood of Jesus, poured out for our sins, spares believers from the wrath of God. Paul writes of the blood of Jesus in Romans 5:9 saying, “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God’s wrath through him. WEB” We read in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. KJV”
On the Cross
A righteous and holy God will not tolerate sin in his presence. For this reason, he judges sin harshly and removes it. On the cross, God transferred our sins to Christ and he paid for them with his blood. Accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, we receive forgiveness for sins and begin to walk in the light of God’s word with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Christians replace the sinful behaviors of the past with devotion to the Lord, fellowship with one another, and living by the word of God with the example of Jesus Christ. By the blood of Jesus, I am redeemed. I am forgiven. As Paul writes of Jesus in Ephesians 1:7, “in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. WEB”
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the light of your word. Thank you for the example of Jesus Christ. Lead me away from temptation. Guide me into a life of effective service for your purpose. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
