Seek Me

Seek Me

I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me. Proverbs 8:17 WEB

The eighth chapter of proverbs is wisdom’s call to humanity. Personified as a woman, wisdom calls mankind to upright behavior and godliness. She says in Proverbs 8:20, “I walk in the way of righteousness, in the middle of the paths of justice. WEB” Wisdom encourages her readers to seek understanding and knowledge saying, “those who seek me diligently will find me.”

When it comes to the good things of God, scripture teaches that they are available to those who diligently seek after them. As Jesus said in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. WEB” Likewise, God appealed to the Hebrews held in Babylonian captivity in Jeremiah 29:13 saying, “You shall seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. WEB”

Truth

More valuable than gold, or precious stones, spiritual wisdom comes from sincerely seeking and obediently serving God. Genuine wisdom is holy and righteous. As wisdom says in Proverbs 8:7-8, “For my mouth speaks truth. Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness. There is nothing crooked or perverse in them. WEB”

When we consider the selfless sacrificial love of God demonstrated by Christ, we better understand love as an act of devotion rather than simply an emotion. In sacrificial love, we give ourselves completely to the object of our affection. Seeking wisdom, we become absorbed in it. Seeking God, we devote our lives to him. Understanding the value of eternal things, we seek after them with all our hearts.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the wisdom of your holy word. Thank you for loving me. Lead me away from trouble. Guide me through the wisdom of your word to live in accordance to your will. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
