that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 WEB
In his letter to the Romans, Paul referenced Deuteronomy 30:11–14 which states, “For this commandment which I command you today is not too hard for you or too distant. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up for us to heaven, bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?’ Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us, bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?’ But the word is very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. Paul’s letter emphasized that many Jews rejected Christ as the Messiah. Though the Word came to them, they waited for another, not believing in Jesus as the Christ.
Jesus Saves
Jesus did what we cannot do. He fulfilled the law by living without sin. Those who, living by the law, tried to save themselves were rejecting Jesus. Paul taught Jews and Gentiles alike to confess with their mouths that Jesus is Lord, believing that God raised him from death. That is the way to salvation. Our works cannot save us. The grace of God saves us through belief in Jesus Christ.
Loving Jesus, we follow his commands as he saved us from eternal separation from God. The innocent blood of Christ saved each soul who places faith in the victory Jesus won on the cross over sin and death. Saved from our sins, we look forward to eternal salvation promised by our Lord.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the gift of salvation that comes through your Son, Jesus Christ. I believe with all my heart that the resurrected Jesus is my Savior. Guide me and give me wisdom as I study your word. Give me understanding and strength to put into practice the principles I learn from the Bible. Lead me to live a life that is pleasing to you and obedient to your will. In Jesus’ name – Amen.”
