Raised Together With Christ

Raised Together With Christ

If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1 WEB

This passage focuses on seeking a heavenly perspective on how to live our lives while still in the world. Paul is teaching the importance of focusing on eternal matters. He encourages readers to seek the things that are above because that is where Jesus is, sitting at the right hand of the Father.

The letter directly addresses those who are already saved because of their belief in Jesus Christ. Paul instructs the church to focus on Christ, the only true teacher of righteousness. As believers, we share resurrection with Christ and share in eternal life with him in heaven.

Living According to God’s Will

New creations, Christ calls us out of the world to live according to God’s will. Serving the Lord, we are establishing his kingdom here on Earth. We let go of worldly things and “seek the things that are above.” This means that we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us. In other words, we live in obedience to the will of God, guided by the Holy Spirit.

We know that the wages of sin is death. Further, we know our salvation comes by the grace of God. Saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross because of his resurrection, we have faith that we will be raised together with him. We do not need to fear death. This is a spiritual lesson. We no longer live under the condemnation of the law but rather, we live through Christ.

Prayer: “Father God, show me your will for me in this life. Teach me and guide me with your word and with the Holy Spirit. Thank you for the promise of being raised together with Christ. Deliver me from temptation so that I can live a life that is pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
