Preferring One Another

Preferring One Another

In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honor preferring one another Romans 12:10 WEB

Paul had just appealed to the followers of Christ to have an honest and genuine love for one another. He is giving a list of commands, directing Christians to love with the self-sacrificing love of Jesus Christ. He is asking that the members of the body of Christ show brotherly love, favoring fellow members.

Brothers and Sisters in the Faith

Because of the sacrifice God made through Jesus on the cross, believers have been made acceptable to God through the redeeming blood of Christ. As Christians, we are adopted into the family of God as his children. We are brothers and sisters in the faith, preferring one another. As such, we are to show loyalty to one another as we remain devoted to God.

When we are tenderly affectionate, we display for the world the gentle, humble nature of our Lord. Beyond that, we fulfill the desire of Jesus given in Matthew 11:29 saying, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. WEB” Following Jesus, we live in the peace that he has given us and have the opportunity to share the good news of Christ with the world.

The last part of this statement is interesting. Honoring fellow Christians, we demonstrate humility while showing esteem for fellow members of the faith. Preferring one another, we are committed to the well-being and health of fellow followers of Christ.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your holy word. Guide me in your will and lead me to express the love of Christ to those you place in my life. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
