More Than Conquerors

More Than Conquerors

No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37 WEB

Isn’t it great to know that we have victory in Jesus Christ? This scripture says that we are more than conquerors. A conqueror has a temporary victory. Eventually conquering empires fall, but the eternally victorious in Jesus are more than conquerors, sharing in Christ’s victory forever.

Before labeling fellow believers, “more than conquerors,” Paul listed several negative things that might happen to a Christian if they separate from Christ. He mentions trouble and hardship, persecution and famine, nakedness and dangers from things like swords. He references Psalm 44:22, “Yes, for your sake we are killed all day long. We are regarded as sheep for the slaughter. WEB”

Nothing Will Separate Us from God’s Love

The great apostle encourages believers assuring that nothing will separate them from God’s love through Christ. Paul wrote in Romans 8:38-39, “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. WEB”

When we walk in the Spirit, denying the flesh, living according to God’s will in Christ we are free from condemnation. Paul points this out in the very first passage of this chapter of Romans. Clearly this does not mean we live free from trouble, but we do live in an extraordinary state of exceeding victory.

No matter what happens Christ has already overcome sin and death. As his, we share in his victory. Like Jesus said in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world. WEB”

Prayer: “Father God: You are holy and full of grace. Thank you that I am more than a conqueror in Jesus Christ. Give me the things I will need today to do your will here on earth. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
