I Wait for the Lord

I Wait for the Lord

I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. Psalm 130:5 KJV

In scripture, the word wait indicates trust and anticipation. In conjunction with the word hope, to wait for the Lord suggests a feeling of great expectation and a desire to receive the good things of God. It is a faithful expression of reliance on God to answer prayer, bring deliverance from difficulty, and fulfill his promise of provision and protection.

Some scholars say that David wrote Psalm 130 while others attribute the writing to his son Solomon. It is a beautiful expression of belief in the love and mercy of God. It begins with an appeal to the Lord for divine grace.

Love Is Patient

The author of the psalm celebrates the forgiveness of a loving God. 1 Corinthians 1:4-5 describes love in glowing detail with these words, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. NIV”

We wait on the Lord to act, to deliver us from trouble, to answer our prayers and for so many other things. Trusting in God, we experience the benefits of our faith and hope written about in Isaiah 40:31 which says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. KJV”

Prayer: “Father God, I trust in you. You are my hope and my redeemer. Search my heart and show me my failings. Help me to overcome my sinful nature. Deliver me from temptation. Lead me to live a life that is pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
