I Sought the Lord

I Sought the Lord

I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4 KJV

The Psalms of David are inspiring to most believers. This passage, in which David asserts, “I sought the Lord,” in itself is stirring. David, for the first seven lines of this Psalm, demonstrates his determination to praise the Lord in all things. He invites the listener to glorify the Lord. David’s enduring faith was the stabilizing element in his life.

The Enemy of Fear

Fear is an enemy. Imagine David, having many enemies, calling on the name of the Lord to calm his fears of those who might do him harm. In various instances, he found himself in perilous situations. Time after time, the Lord proved faithful and capable of delivering David from his dangerous circumstances. Truly blessed is the man who takes refuge in the Lord.

Before David’s prayer, he experienced fear. This Old Testament hero from who’s house the Messiah came, when troubled, says, “I sought the Lord.” The same is true for so many of us who like David say, “I sought the Lord. Whether overwhelmed by circumstances or overjoyed with blessings, we seek and find comfort in the Lord. In both good times the Lord keeps us from temptation. In bad times, God calms our souls as he did for David.

Cast Your Worries on Him

As Christians we have scriptures like 2 Timothy 1:7 to encourage us with these words, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. KJV” We also have these words from 1 Peter 5:7, “casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. WEB” Just as David went to the Lord with his fears, we can go to the Lord with our fears today and he will take them from us like he did in the days of the great king.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for grafting believers in Christ into the vine that is your chosen people. Thank you for making me a part of your great family. Because of you, I am not afraid but confident, knowing that I will be with you in eternity. Guide me all the days of my life. Keep me in your will. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
