I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15 WEB
Chapter four in the Book of Exodus tells the story of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. In the story, a serpent tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. When she eats the fruit and shares some with her husband, their awareness increases and they realize that they are naked. In their newfound self awareness, they quickly sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
After this, the Lord comes walking in the garden in the cool of day. When Adam and Eve heard the Lord approaching, they hid themselves among the trees. But the Lord called to Adam in Genesis 3:9 asking, “Where are you? WEB” Adam responds in Genesis 3:10, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; so I hid myself. WEB”
The Curse of Sin
When the Lord asked Adam how he knew he was naked and if had eaten fruit from the forbidden tree, Adam admitted that he took the fruit from Eve and ate it. After questioning Eve, she made it known that the serpent deceived her and she ate the fruit as well. Because of their disobedience and sin, Adam and Eve would reproduce and die like other mortal beings. His and her offspring continue to populate the earth under the curse of sin.
As he did with Adam and Eve, God pronounced a judgment against the serpent that day. The Lord says to the serpent in Genesis 3:14, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. WEB” God’s words in Genesis 3:15 foretell the defeat of the serpent, Satan, by Jesus Christ. Considering Eve and all of humanity, Jesus is the greatest of her offspring. And although Satan harmed Jesus’ physical body, the Lord ultimately defeated sin on the cross and death in the resurrection fulfilling God’s prophetic plan for our redemption.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your holy word. Thank you for Eve and her offspring and my brothers and sisters of faith. Guide me by the power of your Holy Spirit to serve your purpose. In Jesus name – Amen”
