But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 KJV
In this chapter of Philippians, Paul urges the followers of Christ to be of one mind as he teaches believers that “God will supply your needs.” He tells us to rejoice in the Lord always, letting our gentleness be evident to all people. We are encouraged to fix our thoughts on things that are true and noble, things that are pure, right, and true. Paul also teaches to put the things we have learned into practice.
Paul’s words to the Philippians asserting that God will supply your needs reflects his confidence in God as our provider. The church had been generous in their support of the ministry and Paul is showing gratitude. This is not a promise of an easy life or great wealth but of God providing for the needs of the believer. It does not mean that we will have everything we want, but God does tend to give more resources to those he knows will use them for his purposes.
Don’t Be Anxious
Christ also tells us that God will supply our needs. The Lord says in Matthew 6:25-29, “Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they? WEB”
Jesus continues in Matthew 6:28-29 saying, “Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don’t toil, neither do they spin, yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these. WEB” We will never lack because the Lord is our provider. God will supply our needs.
The word of God does not tell us what we want to hear, it tells us what we need to hear. God does not give us everything we want but he does provide what we need.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for loving me and providing for my needs. Guide me to ask for the things I will need to do your will. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
