But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. 1 Peter 4:16 WEB
Christian life is not without suffering. We have an enemy that will try and break our spirit and drive us away from the Lord. Just as Satan attacked Job in the Old Testament, as believers in Christ, we share in his suffering. And yet, scripture teaches that we glorify God even in our suffering.
The enemy does not want us to share the story of Christ with the world. Because of this, and the unbelief of others, we encounter challenges because of our faith. Some individuals and groups stand in opposition. You may encounter challenges from atheists or those that have different spiritual beliefs. But hold firm to the word of God and find joy in your relationship with Christ, sharing the word with as many who will receive it. Glorify God, even in times of trouble!
You Are Not of the World
When as a Christian the world rejects or mistreats you, remember what Jesus said in John 15:18-19, “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. WEB” Jesus makes it clear why the world is at odds with his followers.
Jesus has further words of encouragement. We read in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world. WEB” Rejoice in Jesus and glorify God!
Christians are not promised trouble free lives, but we are promised God’s help along the way. We are promised eternal life with him. Stay focused on Jesus. Walk in the will of God and rejoice in the victory won through the blood of Jesus Christ. Take refuge in the relationship we have with God because of the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for calling me out of the world. Guide me on the narrow road. Show me my faults and forgive me as I forgive those who have caused me pain. Comfort me and give me the strength to endure the trials of this world. Bless me Father and bless those that curse me. In Jesus’ name – Amen.”
