Give Thanks to the Lord

Give Thanks to the Lord

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1 NIV

Children are taught to say, “thank you” when someone does something good for us. It is part of learning good manners. Hopefully we take these childhood lessons to heart and continue the practice for a lifetime. But how often do we give thanks to the Lord?

As children of God, we should give thanks for the gift of salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We should also show gratitude for God’s provision throughout our Christian lives but often we fail to do so.

Only One Thanked God

The gospel of Luke conveys a story of ten lepers who were cleansed by Jesus. All ten were happy to receive their healing but only one returned to thank Christ. Luke 17:15-17 reveals, “ One of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice. He fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. Jesus answered, “Weren’t the ten cleansed? But where are the nine? WEB” All ten had received the love of Christ but only one praised God and thanked him.

Eternal mercy is the theme of this message. God’s love and kindness are always and forever. How often does God bless any one of us and in our excitement to receive the blessing we fail to praise and thank him?

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the blessings you have given me. Thank you for the love, mercy, and kindness you have shown me. Lead me to be grateful for the people and things you have so graciously placed in my life. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
