Closer Than a Brother

Closer Than a Brother

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 NIV

To have friends, we have to show ourselves as friendly. Give and take relationships that promise, “if you scratch my back, then I will scratch yours,” can be unreliable. When you have nothing to offer that the other person needs, they may leave you in your need. Fair weather friends leave us vulnerable to disaster without support.

It is important to be careful who we choose to associate with in life. We have all heard that you find out who your friends are in times of trouble. True friends are devoted. They will be with us in good times and in bad. We love all our friends and as Christians are even called to love our enemies but the best friend you will have will be there for you no matter what.

Friends That Are Closer Than a Brother

Friends that stick closer than a brother encourage us. They counsel us, they correct and warn us of danger. These friends actually love us. Jesus Christ is this kind of friend. He is a great comforter in times of distress. He counsels us with his word and gives us undeserved love. The Lord loves us always. He will never leave you or forsake you. As the scripture says in Matthew 28:20, “… I am with you always, even to the end of the age. WEB”

Proverbs 13:20 says, “One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. WEB,” Take care to walk in wise counsel with friends that are loyal and devoted to the Lord. And remember God’s word. We are given love in so many ways. The scriptures are loving counsel on how to live a righteous life.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your word. Thank you for Jesus Christ. Thank you for friends that stick closer than a brother. Give me wisdom and understanding as I study your holy word. In Jesus’ name – Amen”

Seek His Face

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will...

Love
