Called of Jesus Christ

Called of Jesus Christ

Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: Romans 1:6 KJV

Jesus said in John 6:37-39, “All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day. WEB”

Our Savior expressed the circumstance of our call to salvation. God calls us to his saving grace. Further, he gives repentant sinners to Christ. God sent Christ into the world to call sinners to repentance. As Jesus famously said in Luke 5:32, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. WEB”

Not From Myself

Christ only said what our heavenly Father commanded him to say. The Lord made this characteristic of his message clear in John 12:49 as Jesus said, “For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. WEB” And so, anyone who responds to the gospel message of Jesus with genuine repentance responds directly to God’s grace and love.

Paul’s words to “the called of Christ ” addressed any Roman contemporary reader of his letter who professed faith in Christ. In a larger sense, the called of Christ are sinners who accept salvation in Jesus Christ. These individuals are those given to Jesus by God because the called of Christ answered God’s call to repentance.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your saving grace. Thank you for the faithful men and women of faith who share the truth of your love and mercy. Lead me away from trouble. Guide me to serve your purpose. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
