Blessed Forever

Blessed Forever

Therefore, now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue forever before thee: for thou, O Lord God, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed forever. 2 Samuel 7:29 KJV

In 2 Samuel Chapter 7, the Lord promised to establish the house of David and keep it forever. Through Nathan the prophet, God promised to establish a descendant of David on the throne. Blessed forever, God kept his promise to David in his direct descendants and through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

David had expressed his desire to build a temple for the Lord. However, the prophet reminded David of God’s unlimited presence, not only his existence in one place and one land. For that reason, the priests used a tent that could be set up in any place as the symbolic dwelling place of the Lord. But also, Nathan informed David that the Lord would allow for a permanent temple in Jerusalem. Solomon later built that temple.

David’s House

God concerned himself with establishing the House of David, blessed forever, through the inclusion of our Savior, Jesus Christ. With Jesus, God created an eternal kingdom not simply a palace of cedar from which to rule the land, but a dynasty of descendants to serve the will of God. God promised to bless forever the house of David, to love his faithful servants, and correct them when they strayed from his will. The Lord chose David and his line of descendants as a means for bringing the Messiah into the world.

Christ was born to Mary the wife of Joseph through the power of the Holy Spirit, the same Spirit that had been with David since his childhood. David so loved God that when he erred, he feared losing the Spirit saying in Psalm 51:11, “Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. KJV” Centuries later Christ was born into the house of Joseph a direct descendent of the house of David. Christ rules forever as the King of Kings fulfilling the prophecy of Nathan and the promise of God.

Prayer: “Father God, you are faithful and true to your word. Thank you for loving me and redeeming me from sin through the blood of Jesus Christ. As you blessed forever your humble servant David, I humble myself in awe of the wonder of your great plan for the salvation of mankind. Blessed forever in Christ, I thank you for the promise of eternal joy with you in heaven. Give me wisdom to please you all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
