Be Steadfast

Be Steadfast

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58 WEB

In this scripture, Paul encourages the Corinthians to give themselves fully to the work of the Lord. He reminds his readers that we labor for a certain purpose, to share the good word of the Lord with our fellow man.

No matter what controversies, no matter the worldly circumstances, the word of God assures us of salvation by the grace of God through faith in the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ on the cross. Because of his love and sacrifice for us, we should be steadfast, meaning loyal or devoted to the Lord.

Without Worldly Compromise

Paul’s concern was that the Corinthians’ cultural tendency for compromise would lead them to fall away from devotion to God. And so, he encourages them to be steadfast and immovable. Always abounding in the work of the Lord, the Corinthians would mature in Christ without worldly compromises.

In line with this teaching, the faithful stand firm in the word of God and persevere in spite of social pressures. We will ultimately share in Jesus’ resurrection and live eternally in the house of the Lord. With this reassurance, we move forward in our service to the Lord knowing that our efforts are not in vain.

Prayer: “Father God, fill me with your Holy Spirit . Give me the strength to stand firm in your word. Prepare me fully to do your work. Make my efforts effective to accomplish your will. In Jesus’ name – Amen.”
