Anchor of the Soul

Anchor of the Soul

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the veil; where, as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:19-20 WEB

These words are an offering of encouragement. The author mentions hope as an anchor of the soul and Jesus Christ as the high priest that gives us that hope.

Anchors are meant to keep a ship from being lost in wind and waves. The anchor holds the boat to a fixed point to keep it and its sailors safe. Jesus Christ is our anchor. He gives us hope through his resurrection that we will enter a new life after death. We hold fast to that hope as a ship holds fast to its anchor.

Jesus Is Our Intercessor

Beyond that, Jesus had already gone to the Father. He entered within the veil when he ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of God. As high priest, Christ intercedes for us with God. We read in John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.’ WEB”

We serve a merciful and mighty God who gave us a way to salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Jesus showed us the way. He showed us that he is the way. When we follow his example, we live lives that are pleasing to God.

Anchoring our lives to faith, hope, and love in Jesus Christ keeps us from being tossed about by the storms of life like an unanchored ship at sea.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for Jesus Christ, the rock of my salvation and the anchor of my soul. Help me to stay focused on your mercy and your love during the storms of life. Keep me anchored in your word. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
