The Glory of God

The Glory of God

The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork. Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Psalm 19:1–3 WEB

This Psalm, attributed to King David, proclaims the clear message that the glory of God is made known through his creation. In other words, nature itself contains a message about its Maker. This Psalm counters the assertion that some members of mankind do not know God. Regardless of where a person is from or what language they speak, the evidence for God’s existence is made clear in our surroundings.

David asserts that, “The heavens declare the glory of God. WEB” When we consider the vast expanse of space and the observable universe, our curiosity is peaked. We may wonder, what is the cause of all of this? It does not stand to reason that something comes from nothing. We know that for every effect there is a cause. And so, it is clear that creation requires a Creator.

The Image of God

The order and beauty of nature further indicates a Creator. Rather than a random and chaotic “accident,” the form and functionality of our surroundings indicates a grand design. The intelligence and self-awareness of a man hints at the supreme intelligence of God. As we read in Genesis 1:27, “God created man in his own image. In God’s image he created him; male and female he created them. WEB” Man himself is a revelation of the handiwork of God.

Creation is like a language that reveals the author of our reality and the glory of God. The message of this language is that everything in physical existence results from the spiritual force of God. Our time comes from our timeless Creator. Our temporary life, from the eternal living God. Material arises from the immaterial. There is no effect without a cause. God is behind it all.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the revelation of your holy word. Thank you for giving me life and understanding. Increase my wisdom so I may better understand your will. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
