The Kingdom of Our Lord

The Kingdom of Our Lord

The seventh angel sounded, and great voices in heaven followed, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ. He will reign forever and ever!” Revelation 11:15 WEB

The book of Revelation, written by John the Elder on the island of Patmos, reveals the future of the kingdom of our Lord. In it, John receives a revelation in a dream. The dream details end times events that include the kingdom of the world becoming the kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Chapter eleven starts with John receiving a rod to measure the temple, the altar, and those who worship in it.

John is told not to measure the courtyard outside the temple because it will be given to the nations. According to the scripture, the people of the world, or the nations, tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. During this time the two witnesses of the Lord, dressed in sackcloth, give prophecy for one thousand two hundred sixty days. Fire proceeds from their mouths to consume any who oppose them during these times.

The Breath of Life

After the days of these prophecies, the beast comes out of the abyss to make war with the prophets and kills them. The bodies lie in the streets for three and half days. John reports that after the three and a half days, the breath of life enters the prophets’ bodies, and they stand to their feet.

Upon seeing this miracle, the people become afraid. The Lord calls the prophets to him, and they rise to heaven in a cloud in the presence of their enemies. After that, a tenth of the city falls in an earthquake. Seven thousand people die in the event, terrifying the rest of the population. Those who remain begin to give glory to God in heaven.

Then, the seventh trumpet sounds and spontaneous worship of the Lord begins. The good news of the kingdom of the Lord is proclaimed. These events precede the return of Christ and his millennial reign. There are still tribulations to come but the assurance from Revelation 11:15 is clear, “The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ. He will reign forever and ever!”

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your holy word. I trust you and believe in your righteousness. Help me to stand strong in your word in difficult times. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
