He said to me, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give freely to him who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life. Revelation 21:6 WEB
Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. This verse from Revelation gives these words from Jesus Christ as revealed to John of Patmos in a prophecy given to him through an experience with an angel of the Lord. In it we see Jesus as “the Beginning and the End” with the power and authority of God himself. As we read in Matthew 28:18, “Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. WEB”
The last part of Jesus’ statement here is an allusion to John 4:14, “but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” WEB”
King of Kings
Our Savior is King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus Christ is “the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” Anyone who hungers for righteousness can come to him. Those who thirst for spiritual satisfaction can drink freely from the water that gives eternal life.
Those who believe in Christ will be with him in the kingdom of heaven. But who refuses this wonderful offer? The Bible tells us who they are in Revelation 21:8 saying, “But for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death. WEB”
The Good News
The good news is that there is a way to find forgiveness and to experience what we read in Revelation 14:4, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, anymore. The first things have passed away. WEB”
Are you saved? When the end comes, and you stand before God, will the blood of the Lamb of God cover your sin? We read in John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. WEB”
The Good News of the gospel is that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us all from sin. When we confess that we are sinners and turn from sin to follow Christ, we receive forgiveness for our sins by the grace of God.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for the gift of salvation through my Savior, Jesus Christ, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Guide me to do your will this day and every day. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
