The Light of the World

The Light of the World

Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared before the face of all peoples a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel. Luke 2:29-32 WEB

Chapter two of Luke’s gospel account is full of interesting details about the life of Jesus. Early in the chapter, Luke gives us the account of Jesus’ birth. Following that, we read of a devout man named Simeon to whom the Holy Spirit had revealed that he would not die before seeing the Messiah. When Simeon saw the baby Jesus, he took him into his arms and said the words we read from Luke 2:29-32.

Christ Lights the Way to Heaven

Jesus Christ is the light of the world. He is God’s love revealed and his mercy personified. Light is a term used to describe Jesus’ righteousness, revelation, and truth. Christ lights the way to heaven presenting the word of God to all people. Jesus made a way for us to be reconciled with God through his death on the cross.

The life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus brings glory to God, to the people of Israel, and to Christ himself. Beyond that, the Lord came to call sinners from all nations and backgrounds to repentance so that we can join him in the kingdom of heaven. As Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. WEB” Jesus Christ is the light of the world!

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your holy word and thank you for Jesus Christ. I praise your goodness and mercy and thank you for your grace. Give me the things I need for today and forgive me of my sins. I forgive any who have offended me. Lead me away from trouble and fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I can effectively live in your will. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
