Free Indeed

If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 WEB

As sinners, we are in a fallen state. We are subject to the desires of the flesh which are never satisfied. The unsaved or backsliding person is a slave to sin. When we commit our lives to God through faith in Jesus Christ, we are set free from sin.

We are dominated by appetite when we live in the flesh. Whether it is sex, alcohol, drugs, envy, greed or whatever else, sin enslaves us. This is human nature. As we read in Matthew 15:19, “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. KJV” Without Jesus Christ, we are lost in sin, we are slaves to sin.

Set Free from Sin

On the other hand, when we give our lives to Christ, we are set free from sin. When we live in Christ, we live in the Spirit. The desires of the flesh pass away but the Spirit endures forever. In the Spirit, we recognize that God’s plan and his ways are higher than our own.

Serving Christ makes life easier and more fulfilling. Jesus said in Matthew 11:29-30, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. KJV” The desires of the flesh are fleeting and do not sustain a man, but the love of God is permanent. Living life by Godly principles eases our burden and satisfies the soul.

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Search my heart and make me aware of my failings. Forgive me for my sins as I forgive those who have offended me. Thank you for setting me free. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
