How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Isaiah 14:12 KJV
This verse comes from a passage of prophecy predicting the downfall of the satanically inspired King of Babylon. It denotes the judgment of death that is upon the sinful and rebellious. In addition, the verses surrounding this scripture, describing Lucifer as “fallen from heaven,” provide insight into the characteristics of those Jesus described as sons of Satan.
God requires justice, love, mercy, and humility from his followers. As we read in Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. NIV” Christ teaches us to follow his example of humble submission to the will of God saying in Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. WEB”
The Father of Lies
On the other hand, Satan promotes pride through deceptive outward acts of self importance. Jesus says of the insincere who reject the truth and seek to destroy the righteous in John 8:44, “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. WEB”
Ultimately, God prevails over evil. Even before defeating sin and death on the cross, Jesus described Satan as fallen from heaven. After sending out disciples to heal the sick and proclaim the kingdom of heaven, they returned overjoyed that the demons were subject to them in Jesus’ name.
Satan’s Fall From Heaven
Our Lord responded to the enthusiasm of his disciples in Luke 10:18 which reads, “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. KJV”
The message is clear. We are either sons of our Father, destined for heaven through the grace of God in Jesus Christ, or sons of Satan, the fallen from heaven, destined to eternal condemnation. The prophet writes of the Luciferian in Isaiah 14:11, “Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, with the sound of your stringed instruments. Maggots are spread out under you, and worms cover you. WEB” But for the humble, repentant sinner, our destiny is found in heaven with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for making clear what you expect from me. Thank you for providing a way to find forgiveness in Christ. Keep me from your adversary who has fallen from heaven. Lead me to do your will here on earth. In Jesus name – Amen”
