The Spirit of God

The Spirit of God

the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Genesis 1:2 KJV

These words from Genesis are part of the creation story. They immediately follow God’s creation of heaven and the earth. Before the Lord began to bring life and fruitfulness to his creation, before the creation of light, the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Our Creator was personally involved in ordering the universe. With the Word of God, Jesus Christ, in the presence of his Holy Spirit, God created all of existence.

In the instant God created heaven and earth, time began. At that moment, our eternal, omniscient, omnipresent triune Godhead of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit lovingly spoke the foundation for our world into existence. Genesis encourages the reader to understand the personal nature of God’s creation. The Lord made all mass and matter. He created time and space.

Let There Be Light

Out of the darkness God said in Genesis 1:3 “Let there be light!” In that moment, God separated light and darkness, causing the distinction between day and night. Then, the Lord separated the water upon the earth from the water in the atmosphere. He caused dry ground to appear for habitable land. God followed by filling the world with plants and animals.

Genesis lays the foundation for the revelation of God’s word. It reveals that man is made in the image of God himself as the pinnacle of God’s creation. The personal involvement the Spirit of God showed in the creation of the world is available to everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. As Jesus says in John 14:15-16,”If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever, the Spirit of truth. NIV”

Prayer: “Father God, thank you for the truth of your word. Thank you for the support of your Holy Spirit. Guide me to do your will. Help me to be more like you. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
