Love and Good Works

Love and Good Works

Let’s consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25 WEB

Our lives of service and faith in Jesus Christ are not an isolated, solitary matter. Although we have a personal Savior, we live in a world of fellow believers. As such, it is the will of God God that we support and encourage one another. This is not only something we should do, it is commanded by the Lord.

To live in obedience to the word and will of God, we must serve and gather together. Jesus commands the faithful in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just like I have loved you; that you also love one another. WEB”

Our growth in faith and service to the kingdom of heaven depends upon interacting with our brothers and sisters of faith. Paul reminds us in his letter to the Hebrews to assemble together. He inspires us to encourage one another to love and do good things for others.

Make Disciples of All Nations

Beyond that, Christ commands that we make disciples of all nations. We read these words of Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. WEB”

Paul, in the service of Christ, leads us to actively serve the kingdom of heaven with love and good works. He emphasizes doing this all the more as time passes and we anticipate the return of Christ.

Prayer: ‘Father God, thank you for the inspiration of scripture. Thank you for my fellow brothers and sisters of faith. Lead me to better serve you and your faithful. Guide me to love and good works for your kingdom. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
