He is before all things, and in him all things are held together. Colossians 1:17 WEB
Praise God and praise Jesus Christ who was and is and will always be. God, for a time, walked among people. The Lord knows the suffering of mankind. Jesus experienced humanity for himself and died on the cross to save us from our sin. In Christ, as Paul says, all things are held together.
In this verse and letter, Paul exalts the Lord and makes clear that Jesus Christ has existed since the very beginning. He is eternal just like God himself. As we read in John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. KJV”
The Word Became Flesh
Jesus Christ is the Word as revealed in John 1:14, “The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. WEB” He not only participated in creation, but as Paul reveals, in him all things are held together.
God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit were all involved in creation. In Genesis 1:26 we read, “And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. KJV” This verse gives an understanding of God as Father, Son and Holy Ghost, three distinct parts of one Creator.
Our Father created all things through the Word which is Jesus Christ. He sustains each believer with the comfort and guidance of his Holy Spirit. Beyond that, God is the reason all things continue to exist. The Lord sustains his creation. In Christ, all things are held together.
Prayer: “Father God, thank you for your beautiful creation. Thank you for sustaining me in faith and the peace I receive in Jesus Christ. Give me the strength to do your will. In Jesus’ name – Amen”
